A security system for monitoring a premises. Alarm information, including a near real-time feed of video and/or audio data, is collected at the premises and retrieved by a remotely located monitoring computer workstation over a data network. If desired, a remotely located emergency response computer workstation coupled to the data network may be authorized, by the monitoring computer workstation, to retrieve the collected alarm information over the data network.
