An awning assembly for the front portion of a recreational vehicle. The awning assembly in a closed position provides an aerodynamic profile for the front portion of the recreational vehicle, so that a front wall can be arranged to allow more efficient use of the interior. In one embodiment, the front wall is vertical so that the front portion of the interior has a full ceiling height. The awning assembly in an open position helps to block out external elements, so that the front wall can be used more efficiently. In one embodiment, the front wall includes a window, and the awning assembly provides a shade for that window while allowing an occupant to look outside towards the front of recreational vehicle.
