An adaptive equalizer has an FIR filter for generating an equalized output signal by equalizing an RF input signal, a sign detector for detecting a sign of the output signal, an absolute value calculator for calculating an absolute value of the output signal, a level error detection part for calculating an error by using a sign and an absolute value, and a coefficient calculator for calculating coefficients of the FIR filter based on the error.
