The mark consists of the letter M followed by a dotted line that represents the outline of the crown of a tooth in side view. A curved letter P, following the dotted line, represents the multi-purpose attachment, a very thin stainless steel bracket that has a flat body and a lumen at one end that is used for engaging an arch wire, in side view as attached to the tooth surface. The multi-purpose attachment for braces looks like a P in side view.
